Results Of Keller ISD Survey Could Mean Changes In District

KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) – The Keller school district may be shifting gears after the results of a survey revealed residents think they need to boost some areas of course instruction.

Every year the Keller Independent School District asks parents, and others in the district, to answer a list of questions about the kind of job they’re doing with kids. This years survey returned positive results but also called for more career and technical training.

“I think we’re seeing more and more students kind of leaning toward those careers in technical fields,” Keller ISD spokesman Bryce Neiman said of the recommendations. “People just want to see probably more of those opportunities presented to students and make sure that they [opportunities] are equally distributed across the district.”

The survey also revealed that parents are concerned about educators helping those students who will go directly into the workforce, and not on to a college or university. “In the coming months we’ll have a strategic planning meeting,” Neiman said. “We’ll bring together community members, students, parents, faculty and staff, and this will be one of the pieces we sit down and look at.”

Overall, Neiman said the results of the survey were very positive and that, “Most people who responded to the feedback had positive things to say about the district.”

Survey results also revealed that residents want more and better communication with school district leadership and less focus and teaching investment on standardized testing.

More than 3,500 parents and school district employees completed the voluntary online survey.
